Q: Do you recommend to run your software as Administrator ?
Yes, for best functionality it is recommended to run our software with the "Run as Administrator" option. If you run our software from normal user some functionalities may be limited. For example, if you run the application Hijack Hunter as normal user, the Services List and Drivers List will be empty as you have not enought privileges.
Q: I have a problem posting a comment in your blog, what can I do ?
We use a filter policy that ban all pharmacy/loan/porn related words. Be sure to use only "normal" words in your comment. In case you have still problems you may want to contact us.
Q: Where can I find info about advertising in your website ?
You can contact us for details on paid banner advertisement.
Q: How can I use this service ?
Multi-Engine Antivirus Scanner is a free service that allows you to scan a local file or a remote file/url with 24 Antivirus Engines:
To scan a local file select the tab "Scan File", click the button "Browse...", select a file you want to scan and then click the button "Submit File".
To scan a remote file select the tab "Scan Web Address", insert the url you want to scan and click the button "Submit Address".
You will see then a page that indicate the status of the scanning process and in approximate 1 minute (depend from queue number) you will see the final report.
Q: What is Scan File ?
It allows you to upload and scan a local file.
Q: What is Scan Web Address ?
It allows you to scan a website url or a remote file.
Q: What is the option "Do not distribute the sample" ?
If you do not want that your file will be shared or distributed because you think that can contain sensitive data or for other personal reasons, you can check the option "Do not distribute the sample".
Q: I can not browse the scanner's page, what can I do ?
Possible reasons of this problem are:
1) Server is in maintenance;
2) We are doing internal tests;
3) Your IP Address has been banned;
3) You are using a proxy (most proxies are automatically banned);
If is the case of point 1 or 2 then the server will be back shortly, generally from 1 to 3 hours, but depend from the work that need to be done. If is the case of point 3 or 4 then you should contact us.
Q: The page went down after file scanning was finished, what can I do ?
In this case is possible the server is in maintenance or we are doing internal tests. In a short time you should be able to see your report.
Q: It is taking a lot for scanning, what can I do ?
The only thing you can do in this case is to wait until it is displayed the report. If at the end your report is not displayed, is possible we are doing internal tests.
Q: Why I get "Warning, Javascript is disabled" ?
This service require JavaScript enabled in your web browser in order to use it. Make sure your web browser has JavaScript enabled.
Q: Why I get "Error: File is empty" ?
Possible reasons of this problem are:
1) You are trying to scan a local file that is blocked by your local Antivirus;
2) You are trying to scan a file that is of 0 bytes;
3) You are trying to scan a remote url that has a file of 0 bytes;
Q: Why I get "Error: Internal server error ***" ?
In this case is possible the server is in maintenance.
Q: What is Binder Detector ?
A "Binder" is a program that generally is used to bind (join) 2 files togheter, example: one is the virus and the other one is the real program. When the binded file will be executed, generally is executed also the virus (hidden) togheter with the real program, and you will be infected without "knowing" of it. Binder Detector is a program developed by us that is able to detect if a file is joined/binded with a possible malware.
Q: What is Self-Extract Archive ?
It is a program developed by us that is able to detect RarSFX and Cabinet archive that can be extracted with the right click of the mouse -> extract here (using WinRar) and you will be able to see the files that are "inside" the Self-Extract Archive. In some cases if you see 2 EXE files only, it is possible that one is the virus, to be more sure of this you can scan both files on our online virus scanner.
Q: What is PDF Exploit Detector ?
It is a program developed by us that is able to detect if a PDF file contains malicious javascript code.
Q: What is HTML Exploit Detector ?
It is a program developed by us that is able to detect possible malicious code present in web pages used to exploit vulnerabilities of web browsers or applications.
Q: What is file size limit for ASCII Strings ?
File size limit for this feature is of 500 Kb.
Q: Which is the limit of the file size I can upload ?
In Scan File the file size limit is of 20 Mb and in Scan Web Address the remote file size limit is of 10 Mb.
Q: Can you send me a file I have scanned in this service ?
No, we cannot do this.
Q: What is the EICAR-Test-File ?
The EICAR test file (official name: EICAR Standard Anti-Virus Test File) is a file, developed by the European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research, to test the response of computer antivirus (AV) programs. You can find additional info on its homepage or in wikipedia.
Q: Can I see a sample report of a scanned file ?
Yes, here there is an example report scanning the EICAR-Test-File.
Q: Why I see sometimes less than 10 Antivirus engines ?
Because we are doing internal tests that require us to disable some engines. After a short time all missing engines will be re-enabled.
